Special Thanks from a Cattle Dog!! 10/18/06

This is what rescue is all about!!

Hi, My name is Frisco and I am a "Rescue".

I'm came to my foster Mother's house just a few days before another rescue "Ollie/Odie" went to his new forever home. I never got to meet Odie because I was very sick and had to be in "isolation" so I couldn't make anybody else sick.

My foster mother picked me up at the Bowling Green, Kentucky Animal Shelter where I was on "death row" after a friend asked her to take me in for a little while so he could buy a new place to keep a lot of the other unwanted cattle dogs who needed a place to stay and look for a new family.

When my foster mother got there, I was in a corner with my head down, looking like I had just given up for good. The Vet at the shelter heard me cough so she sent some anti-biotic's with me and off we headed for the two-hour trip to my new foster home.

After 2 weeks of the medicine, I was feeling better and even felt like I could jump and play but still had a little cough. My foster mother got worried because I didn't gain weight and still coughed so she took me to the vet. He took pictures of my lungs and said that I never had kennel-cough like the shelter thought, but had canine influenza that could eventually go into bronchitis or pneumonia without treatment.

Finally, after three more weeks of medicine, I am a new dog!! I have gained weight and am now healthy and can run and play without getting winded or coughing! My foster mother says I have turned into a very pretty boy. I will be going to Tennessee Valley Cattle Dog Rescue to the new bigger and better facility where hopefully they will find me a forever home with a loving family.

I am writing this very special THANK YOU! to Odie's family because my foster mother says they made it easy for her to take me to the vet again because of their generosity and love of cattle dogs and especially their love of Odie. The money they sent her as a donation came at just the right time to help pay the vet bill that made me well. She says it must have been meant to be and it was a sign that Odie was happy and wanted another cattle dog to be healthy and happy.

So, with all my heart, I want to personally thank Jamie and Greg, Odie's new family, for their thoughtfulness and generosity and let them know what a big difference they made in not just one cattle dog's life, but two.

Thanks again to Odie's family and thanks to Tennessee Valley Cattle Dog Rescue who made sure that Frisco got his shots, neutered and micro chipped and will be looking for a home for Frisco.

Frisco Up Date!!! 10/26/06

Jamie,

I just wanted to let you know that I received word from theTennessee Valley Cattle Dog Rescue where I had sent Frisco. Frisco was placed in his new home on Monday evening. He will live in Knoxville, Tennessee with a retired Marine, his wife and their three children. They had recently lost an older cattle dog(13 years) to cancer of the nasal cavity. I had really felt bad about sending Frisco away, but knew that Michael had set up some people to look at him. I was so glad to hear that he was placed so soon and didn't have to go through too many transitions. I feel like you played a big part in Frisco's rescue and thought you would like to hear how he is doing. I hope all is going well for you and your family.

Odie's Other Mom

What I did was not a big deal in my eyes. The fee for adopting Odie was only $75. He came to me with all his shots, chipped, neutered and because I live in CT and he was in KY at the time I could not go and get him. So he had to go back to the vets to get a health certificate so he could be shipped to me. I asked Odies foster mother to send all his medical records so I can keep them in his file. So all I did was total the cost of everything, which came to $300 and sent that to Odies foster mother. To me Odie is worth so much more than that.

If all of us just take the time to do what ever we can to help it does make a difference. You don't have to send money. Volunteer your time to a local shelter or animal organization or donate food, blankets, toys, etc. Every little bit helps and this is proof. When I was sent the first letter above about Frisco I started crying because I felt for the first time in my life that I really made a difference and let me tell you it feels wonderful to help an animal in need.
